All dogs six months or older located within the Town of Sterling must be licensed.
Licenses are renewable yearly.
Licenses are valid January 1 thru December 31.
The deadline for purchasing licenses without penalty is April 15 or, if weekend or holiday, the next business day.
Licenses bought after the deadline are subject to a $25.00 late fee per dog.
Licenses issued without fee are available to seniors (70 years of age or older) and for service dogs. For these, please call the office at 978-422-8111 ext. 2307.
Altered (spayed / neutered) dogs are eligible for a reduced rate on the license fee.
No license is issued for a dog not having a current rabies vaccination.
The Town Clerk must have a copy of the rabies vaccination certificate on file before issuing a license.
Purchased licenses are non-refundable.
Licenses are not transferable from one dog to another.
Tags must be worn by dogs (MGL ch. 140, sec. 13).

Licenses are sent through the postal mail. Please allow up to 10 business days for processing and delivery.
