All dogs six months or older located within the Town of Westwood must be licensed.
Licenses must be renewed annually; failure to do so may result in a $25.00 late fee for each unlicensed dog, per §184-10, C. (1), of the Town of Westwood General Bylaws and MGL Ch. 140, §141.
Licenses are valid January 1 thru December 31 of each given year.
The deadline for purchasing licenses without penalty is March 31, or, if weekend or holiday, the next business day.
The license fee will be waived for those residents 70 years of age or older per Town bylaws §184-10.C.(2) (one dog per household, excluding Kennels) and for service dogs, provided necessary paperwork is given. For these exemptions you may apply by mail provided proof is included or apply in-person, at the Town Clerk's office.
Altered (spayed / neutered) dogs are eligible for a reduced rate on the license fee.
No license is issued for a dog not having a current rabies vaccination.
The Town Clerk must have a copy of the rabies vaccination certificate on file before issuing a license.
Purchased licenses are non-refundable.
Licenses are not transferable from one dog to another.
Tags must be worn by dogs at all times (MGL Ch. 140, §13).

Licenses are sent through the postal mail. A $1.00 fee is added to the order for postage. Please allow up to 10 business days for processing and delivery.
